Best Time to Visit Agadir: Weather and Seasons

Aerial view of the beach and bay of Agadir

In short: Agadir is a year-round destination with a mild, sunny climate. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best all-round seasons for beaches and excursions together. Winter is mild on the coast and ideal for day trips inland. Summer is warm and busy, with cooler mornings by the ocean and much hotter days inland.

Agadir’s climate in brief

Agadir sits on the Atlantic coast, protected by the Atlas Mountains to the north and east. The ocean keeps temperatures moderate: winters are mild and summers are rarely as hot on the coast as in inland cities like Marrakech or Taroudant. Rain is limited and falls mainly between November and March. The Atlantic stays fresh all year, which is pleasant on hot days but cool for long swims in winter.

Best time for each type of trip

  • Beach and swimming: June to October, when the sea is at its warmest.
  • Paradise Valley and the Imouzzer waterfalls: late winter and spring, after the rains. At the end of a dry summer the pools and falls can be low. See our Paradise Valley guide.
  • Desert trips to Zagora or Merzouga: October to April. Summer heat in the Sahara is extreme, and winter nights can be very cold, so pack warm layers. Read how to visit the Sahara from Agadir.
  • Surfing in Taghazout and Imsouane: autumn to spring usually brings the most consistent swells; summer is better for beginners.
  • Birdwatching in Souss-Massa National Park: autumn to spring, when migratory and wintering birds are present. Sightings are never guaranteed.
  • Marrakech day trips: spring, autumn and winter. In midsummer Marrakech is much hotter than Agadir.

Things to keep in mind

  • Chergui wind. A hot, dry wind from the interior can occasionally bring heat waves to the coast, including outside summer.
  • Morning mist. In summer, low cloud can cover the coast in the morning before clearing.
  • Ramadan. Its dates move forward by about 11 days each year. Travel works normally, but some cafés and restaurants change their hours during the day.
  • School holidays. July, August and the end-of-year holidays are the busiest periods. Book excursions early if your dates are fixed.
