Tafraoute sits in a basin of the Anti-Atlas surrounded by enormous pink and ochre granite boulders, with the Jebel Lekst towering over the Ammeln valley to the north. It is one of the most striking landscapes in southern Morocco, and a long but rewarding day trip from Agadir.
The road climbs through Aït Baha and the argan-covered hills before crossing passes with wide views over terraced villages. In Tafraoute you have time to wander the small town, see the famous rock formations such as Napoleon’s Hat, and drive into the Ammeln valley, where traditional villages cling to the foot of the mountain. In February the almond trees of the region are usually in blossom.
Early pickup from your accommodation in Agadir (usually around 7:30) to make the most of the day. Return in the evening.
This is a private tour: the vehicle, the driver and any guide are reserved for you and the people travelling with you. You will never be combined with other travellers, and the pace, stops and timings can be adjusted to suit you.
Much of the day is spent on scenic roads, with frequent stops for photos and short walks. The private format means you can stop wherever the light is good and adapt the route, for example by returning via a different road.
